The reality of relegation is getting clearer at Schalke in the Bundesliga and things could get even tougher this weekend when they host Borussia Dortmund. The 0-0 draw with Union Berlin in the last game left Schalke with nine points, at the bottom of the Bundesliga. Meanwhile, Dortmund are sixth with 33 points. Schalke have gone winless in their last seven matches, and are without a goal in their last three games. They started the season on an 8-0 loss to Bayern Munich and it has been downward since, with just one win in the league so far and nine points below the safety zone. The team has conceded the most goals (52) in the league and scored the least (15), while they’ve lost the most (14) and won the least (1). In their last five matches, Schalke have conceded nine goals and scored just one. They’ve failed to score in 11 of their 21 league games so far.

Borussia Dortmund will be in high spirits after their 3-2 away win at Sevilla in the Champions League on Wednesday. It was the fifth time in six matches that they’ve scored two or more goals and Erling Haaland was on the score sheet again, with two goals. They had to stage a first half comeback in the game after going behind in the seventh minute, and led 3-1 at half time. Luuk de Jong’s goal late on, however meant for the sixth time in seven matches, they’ve conceded two or more. Dortmund are six points off the top four and are the side with the most losses (8) among the top 11 teams. They’ve also conceded the most goals (31) among the top six teams, while they head to this game with no clean sheet in nine matches. As seen in their recent matches, however, scoring hasn’t been a problem for Dortmund. The team has scored in 29 straight games and the last seven have all produced over 2.5 goals. Just one win in six Bundesliga matches is a run they’ll be keen to stop. The win over Sevilla ended a three-game winless run away from home, now they should instill the same in the Bundesliga.
