Schalke welcomes Bayern Munich to the Veltins Arena for this match in the Bundesliga. The home team are currently at the foot of the table with nine points while the visitors are in top spot with 31 points. Schalke come into this match on the back of a morale boosting 1-0 win over Mainz. It was just their second win of the season in their 14 league games. Schalke are still five points from safety as they remain in last spot despite the win. They have however closed the gap to 17th placed Bochum to just a single point. Up until their win in the last match they were on a seven match losing streak across all competitions which also included them being knocked out of the German Cup by Hoffenheim. Both Schalke wins this season have come at home although they face the toughest of tests against the champions Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munch had an excellent 6-1 win over Werder Bremen in their last match, a result which took them four points clear at the top of the table. They have hit a purple patch of form, winning their last nine matches across all competitions. During this period they have also topped their group in the Champions League, winning all six of their group matches in the competition. Bayern have hit their best form but will be a little disappointed that the season will be halted after this match for the World Cup break. They have also been excellent on their travels, winning their last five matches on the road.
