Saudi Arabia vs Mexico Prediction & Betting Tips - World Cup
by Daniel Ngulu | in World Cup Predictions
Saudi Arabia face Mexico in a deciding game in Group C of the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar on Wednesday. Saudi Arabia go into this game with three points and in third place while Mexico are bottom of the group with a point. Poland top the group on four points with Argentina in second, ahead of Saudi Arabia on goal difference. Saudi Arabia can qualify with a win and would win the group if Poland draw with Argentina. A draw would see them qualify if they can get a better result than Argentina. For Mexico, only a win will keep their World Cup hopes alive and would qualify if Poland beat Argentina. Any other result in that game would see the Mexicans needing to vastly improve their goal difference.

Saudi Arabia - Mexico: Form Analysis
Saudi Arabia registered a major upset in beating Argentina 2-1 on matchday one after coming from a goal down. They couldn't, however, keep up with the high expectations and went on to lose 2-0 to Poland in the next game. In that game, they conceded more than a goal for the first time in 11 matches, but they have not kept a clean sheet in the last four. The Saudi team deserve credit for defensive compactness but they haven’t been scoring a lot. In their last 13 matches, they have scored more than a goal in just one game. Four of their last five matches have produced under 2.5 goals but this will not mean much going into this game. What matters more is that they need to improve on their World Cup record, which has just two wins in the last 15 games. In their last three World Cup matches, Saudi Arabia have three losses and failed to score in those defeats, while they have failed to keep a clean sheet in the last five matches. Mexico, on the other hand, have not won any of their last three matches, while they have conceded two or more goals in three of their last five matches. This includes a 2-0 loss to Argentina in their most recent game. They held on for long stretches against Argentina but their resistance was broken in the latter stages, leaving them with just one win in the last five matches. They’ve managed just two clean sheets in the last five matches and six of their last 10 games have ended in under 2.5 goals. The Mexicans have scored more than a goal in just three of their last 10 matches in competitive action. Mexico have managed seven clean sheets in the last 10 matches, compared to Saudi Arabia’s five in the last 10 competitive games.

Saudi Arabia & Mexico Squad Analysis
Mexico will go into this game without the services of Andres Guardado who is out injured. In a game they must win to progress, this will be a heavy blow and all eyes will be on how they line up for this game, being forced to send out an attacking team. Raul Jimenez may be a candidate for a starting berth but his recent injury record doesn’t guarantee much in terms of goals, though Gerardo Martino has no option but to use all the attacking talent at his disposal. Saudi Arabia’s Herve Renard will have bigger problems to deal with; Abdulelah Al Maliki is suspended for this game, while Yasser Al-Shahrani is out with injury and having undergone a jaw surgery, is out of the World Cup. Nawaf Al Abid was withdrawn late in the loss against Poland, having come on as a substitute in the second half and remains a doubt for this game.

Our Saudi Arabia vs Mexico Prediction
One major headache for both managers going into this game will be how to inspire their teams to score. The two sides are not prolific scorers but on the flipside, haven’t been conceding a lot, which has resulted in under 2.5 goals in most of their recent competitive games. We will back the same in this game.

Saudi Arabia have three points and are third in the group. They will qualify if winning this match and top the group if Argentina beat Poland. Mexico simply must win to have any shot at qualification. A win coupled with a draw between Poland and Argentina sees them through, while any other result would need the Mexicans to win by three or even four goals to advance.
