Sassuolo vs Genoa Prediction & Betting Tips - Serie A

The penultimate round of the Serie A season presents an interesting clash at the Mapei Stadium, where Sassuolo will host Genoa. Sassuolo, eighth in the table, have no chance of reaching seventh place as that's 11 points away. A top-ten finish is still a moderately good season for the club though and it would be their first since 2016. They will be desperate to hang on to what they have and know that a slip-up could lead to one, if not all, of the three clubs that are two points behind them leapfrogging. Genoa have higher stakes to contend with as they are 17th in the table, four points clear of Lecce in 18th. Victory at Sassuolo would ensure their safety and Genoa have already beaten them this season, 2-1 in the reverse fixture back in January. Honours have been split between the two clubs in recent meetings with each winning two of the last six and the other two games ending level. 

Sassuolo have failed to win their last four Serie A matches but their opponents on that run included Juventus, AC Milan, and Napoli. While they lost to the latter two, they played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Juventus. It exemplified the attacking talents that make them the highest-scoring side outside the top four. They were also notably unlucky in that 2-0 defeat to Napoli as they had four goals ruled out for offside. While they have only won two of their last six matches at home, they could pick up another win against the worst defence outside of the relegation zone. Having said that, Genoa have been scoring goals to make up for their appalling defensive record, finding the back of the net at least twice in three of their last five matches. Genoa have also upped their away game recently, with only three times higher in the form table. The last three encounters between Sassuolo and Genoa have featured both teams scoring and we expect this one to follow suit. Back over 2.5 goals.
