Two sides in need of a Serie A victory will face off this week, with Sassuolo playing host to Genoa on Friday evening. Both teams are tied on 16 points in as many matches, though the visitors have a marginally better goal difference of one. The hosts have failed to find their best form this season. They played out a 2-2 draw against Udinese last weekend, which extended their recent record to three matches without a win following losses to Roma and Cagliari. Looking further back, Sassuolo have won just one of their last ten league matches, which was against bottom-three opponent Empoli directly after the international break. In addition, the hosts have failed to win any of their last five home games, drawing two and losing three. However, Sassuolo are unbeaten in their last five against this opponent, which sees them come into the match as the bookmakers’ favourite. 

Meanwhile, having only secured promotion back to the top flight last season, Genoa will be relatively pleased with their effort so far this term. While they are still far from declaring safety, they have opened up a three-point buffer above the dotted line with a record of four wins, four draws and eight losses in their 16 league games. The Griffins will also come into this match in good spirits, having held Juventus to a 1-1 draw last weekend. However, that was also their fourth consecutive match without a win since beating Verona back in November. The visitors have only taken four points from eight away games this season and are on a four-match losing streak on the road. They have also conceded two or more goals in four of their last five outings.
