Matchweek two of the Brazilian Serie A will get underway this weekend when Sao Paulo plays host to FC America this Saturday, with both sides in search of their first league win of the season. Sao Paulo are in 14th place after their first match, which ended in a 2-1 defeat to Botafogo last week. Over the course of last season, Sao Paulo recorded 14 wins, 7 draws, and 6 losses in 27 matches at Estadio Cicero Pompeu de Toledo and come into this one having won their last home match 2-0 against Academia Puerto Cabello on Wednesday night in the Copa Sudamericana. Before that, the hosts were involved in the Paulista A1 competition and made it to the quarter-final stages before bowing out to the eventual runners-up Agua Santa on penalties. Sao Paulo won the last meeting between these sides 2-0 last year and finished the season just one point above FC America. Based on the stats, this should be another close encounter, and the hosts will need to make the most of their home-ground advantage to try and take an early lead in this match if possible. 

Meanwhile, FC America suffered a 3-0 defeat in their opening match against the formidable-looking Fluminense, which sees them come into this match second-from-bottom in the current Serie A standings. The visitors followed up with another defeat in the Copa Sudamericana in midweek, losing 2-1 to Defensa y Justicia, bringing their tally to three losses in their last four matches in all competitions. FC America did well in pre-season while competing in the Mineiro 1 tournament and made it all the way to the final but fell at the final hurdle, losing 5–2 on aggregate to Atletico Mineiro at the start of the month. Over the course of last season, the visitors were not great in away matches, with a record of eight wins, four draws, and 12 losses in their 24 matches on the road. FC America has been leaky in defence in the pre-season and will need to tighten up if they are to take anything from this match.
