Santos are down in 15th in the Serie A table and are only a point above the relegation zone but with a game in hand. They have only won one of their last three league games and lost two of their last three home league matches. Santos tend to be inconsistent as the other of those three home matches saw them beat Vitoria 5-2.

Palmeiras are sixth in the table with 19 points from their 12 league games this season. They have drawn their last two league games and won’t forget the most recent one in a hurry. Last Saturday saw them host  top of the table Flamengo with the game ending in a 1-1 draw. Those leaving early certainly missed some action with six players sent off in injury time (three from each team) after a mass brawl.
