Struggling 13th-place Santos look to get their season back on track when they take on fourth-placed Flamengo in the Brasileirão Série A. Santos are in crisis mode as they enter this game on a nine match winless run. A 2-0 loss at home to Corinthians in their most recent fixture on Wednesday led to the team parting ways with manager Odair Hellmann after less than one year in charge. They’ll now attempt to bounce back in front of their home fans where they have won two, drawn three and lost once in six outings at the Estadio Urbano Caldeira. Santos are at least playing better on home soil although there are still major concerns for the club. They find themselves down in 13th-place and are currently sitting only two points above the relegation zone. Additionally, they trail the Copa Libertadores qualification top six spots by five points although there is plenty of season still to play.
Flamengo are coming into this fixture off the back of a shockingly poor display which led to a heavy 4-0 away defeat at the hands of RB Bragantino. It was the club’s worst defeat since August of 2021 where they fell to Internacional by the same scoreline. Manager Jorge Sampaoli will be expecting an immediate response from his side who were previously on a four game winning streak prior to the ill-fated trip to the Nabi Abi Chedid Stadium. Flamengo currently sit fourth in the standings, three points behind second-place Palmeiras and eight points off leaders Botafogo. The 2019 and 2020 champions have been inconsistent on the road this season where they have managed just two wins in 10 away matches across all competitions.
