Cologne have the chance to bag their first win of the season when they switch gears to the DFB Pokal. The three-time Bundesliga champions start off with a first round away match at Sandhausen. Read on for our preview and the prediction.
Sandhausen are targeting an improvement on their second round exit last season. They come here off the back of a fine start to the season, winning all three games so far.
After losing each of their last four matches against Cologne, they will be motivated by the solid start in the 3. Liga. The last time the two met was in 2019 when Sandhausen took a half time lead but lost 3-1.
Last season they put up a brave fight against Bayer Leverkusen in their 5-2 loss in the second round. Leverkusen had to score three times in the final five minutes to win the match.
Cologne, newly relegated from Bundesliga, have had a tough start to life in the second-tier. They have a point from their opening two matches, and conceded four times in the process.

A major concern for the visitors, however, will be the fact that they have just one clean sheet in the last 16 competitive matches. As they face a team that has started the season confidently, defence may be an area for Gerhard Struber to address immediately.
