Salernitana vs Genoa Prediction & Betting Tips - Serie A

Bottom of the table Salernitana faces Genoa on Sunday with both teams desperate to land points. The home side have won just two games all season in Serie A, a 2-1 win at home to Lazio in November and a 1-0 win away at Verona in December. Since then, Pippo Inzaghi has seen his side beaten twice by Juventus and then defeated last weekend away at Napoli. Salernitana are currently seven points from safety in the table, so they have to start picking up wins sooner rather than later if they are to avoid becoming a permanent fixture at the foot of the Serie A table. Conceding goals is their main issue, with an average of two goals a game being scored against them (40 goals conceded in 20 Serie A games thus far).

In contrast, Genoa lie 12th in the Serie A table and are unbeaten in their last five games, albeit drawing four of those matches. Their one win in that run did come on the road - a 2-1 win at Sassuolo just before Christmas. Defensively, Alberto Gilardino's team are solid, conceding just 24 goals in Serie A this season, but they also average just one a game at the other end of the field. As a result, recent games involving Genoa have not seen many goals scored - just one of their last seven games has seen over 2.5 goals. It is also worth noting that Genoa's away form in Serie A isn't great, losing six of their ten games and scoring just eight goals on the road. There is no doubt that manager Gilardino and the Genoa fans will have targeted getting something from this away game given Salernitana's struggles and the fact that they earned a 1-0 win at home when the teams met earlier in the season.
