Western Conference winners St. Louis City SC host third-place Seattle Sounders for the final matchday of the 2023 MLS regular season. St. Louis City's five-point lead over second-place LAFC means they will enter the MLS Cup Playoffs as the first-seed in the West and will take on the winner of the eighth vs ninth-place play-in game. Seattle, meanwhile, still have something to play for as they fight for seeding with the possibility to overtake the defending champions for second. 

St. Louis City are coming off a 3-0 away defeat to Vancouver in their last outing two weeks ago, their first loss since the beginning of September. Bradley Carnell’s men will now return to City Park where they have been superb this season. St. Louis amassed a record of 11 wins, two draws and only three defeats in front of the home crowd. What makes their season even more remarkable is that St. Louis City are an expansion team playing their first MLS season. They can break the points record set by a first-year expansion team (currently LAFC in 2018 with 57) with a win. 

Seattle took a significant leap forward this year following a disappointing 11th-place finish season. Key to Seattle’s success this time around has been their stellar defense. At just 32 goals allowed in 33 matches, Seattle has the best defense in the league and is the only club currently averaging less than a goal conceded per outing. The visitors will come into this fixture against the West’s top team following a 0-0 draw at home against Vancouver two weeks ago. The result means that Seattle are now on a run of eight consecutive games without defeat, although five of the matches during that stretch ended in draws. The Sounders have one of the best away records in the MLS at 6-5-5.
