St Louis City will take on LA Galaxy in a top-versus-bottom encounter in the MLS Western Conference on Sunday. The hosts currently lead the Seattle Sounders by one point at the top of the standings, though they have played two games fewer. LAFC, who sit in third, are two points behind St Louis and have played two games fewer than the current league leaders and four games fewer than the Sounders. St Louis lost their last match 2-0 away to Dallas, which brought an end to their three-match winning run. Over their last six, they’ve won three and lost three, while in eight home matches this season, St Louis have recorded six wins and two losses. The hosts are on a three-match winning streak at home, scoring ten and conceding just one in that time. Despite losing a friendly against this opponent in pre-season, St Louis will feel that they are in good enough home form to take all three points from this one. 

Meanwhile, LA Galaxy are still a long way from the type of form that saw them end last season in the top four. The visitors currently sit at the bottom of the Western Conference with 12 points, eight points behind the top half of the table. LA Galaxy managed a 3-2 away win over Real Salt Lake in their last match, which was just their third of the season in 15 matches. Over their last six, the visitors have recorded two wins and four losses. That win over Real Salt Lake also brought an end to a seven-match winless run in away matches this season. Up to then, LA Galaxy had scored only one goal in seven away matches, failing to score a single goal in the other six. However, having broken their away duck, can they follow up with another good result in this one?
