The Leagues Cup sees MLS side St. Louis City FC needing a win when they host Liga MX Club America for their final Group D match. America, who are second in the group, will be taking part in their first fixture of this tournament while St. Louis City sit bottom of the standings. City fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Crew on Sunday meaning another defeat here will eliminate them from the competition. It’s been a hugely positive debut season in Major League Soccer for the newest expansion team St. Louis City. They’ve shocked everyone and currently lead the Western Conference with a four point lead after 23 games. The loss to Columbus in their most recent outing means that the home side has now lost two of their last three, both of which came on the road. St. Louis City have won eight of their 12 outings at City Park in the league this season as they continue to put up impressive results on home soil. 

Club America have been one of Liga MX’s most consistent teams over the past year. They were crowned champions of the 2022/23 Apertura season and finished as runners-up in the Clasura. Over the combined season last campaign, the Eagles finished second with a record of 21 wins, nine draws and only four defeats. They opened the new 2023/24 Apertura season with a disappointing 2-1 home loss to Juarez but were able to bounce back with a 3-0 win over Puebla in the next fixture. America were by far the best Liga MX club away from home in the previous season where they averaged an impressive 2.14 points per game over 21 total away trips. Over these 21 away matches, Club America blasted in 48 goals and conceded only 25 for a goal differential of +23. A win would guarantee the Mexican club a spot in the knockout phases before their final group stage match against the Crew.
