Saint-Etienne were close to a crucial away win at Auxerre in the first leg of their promotion/relegation playoff on Thursday, but they conceded a late equalizer for the game to end 1-1. They will host the return leg, on Sunday, the winner getting the ticket to play in Ligue 1.
