Rwanda vs Nigeria Prediction & Betting Tips - AFCON
by Nella Wagah in AFCON Predictions
African giants Nigeria will embark on their trip to East Africa where they are scheduled to face Rwanda on Tuesday 10th September. The Super Eagles and Amavubi meet in Group D of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, a pool that also has Libya and Benin. We have the preview and prediction for this match below.
As Rwanda battled to a draw away in Libya in the first round of matches, Nigeria, playing at home, beat Benin. While Nigeria arrive for this match as the more fancied to triumph, Rwanda will be looking at their recent run with much positivity.
A shock result is never too far as Rwanda eyes a first ever win against their more accomplished opponents. Across all competitions, the hosts have just one goal against Nigeria and are still in search of their first ever win in this fixture. Nigeria, fielding top stars in world football, will definitely be the bookies’ favorites.

Rwanda - Nigeria: Form Analysis
Rwanda opened their qualification campaign on a positive footing, drawing 1-1 with Libya in Tripoli. Trailing 1-0 at half time, Innocent Nshutiyamagara pulled them back level just after the break. Taking that result to their first home match should breed confidence against Nigeria.
The East African nation has only suffered one defeat in the last eight matches, a 2-0 setback against Benin. Among the teams they met in that period were Senegal and South Africa.
For the home fans, there’ll be reason to be optimistic, Rwanda having kept clean sheets in five of their last seven matches. At home, they didn’t concede in three of their last five matches.
However, they also failed to score in four home matches before finally breaking that streak with a 2-0 win against South Africa.
Rwanda's scoring form at home could hinder their progress against Nigeria.
Nigeria are coming from a comprehensive win over Benin in Uyo to extend their good performance in AFCON qualification matches. This was not only the perfect revenge for Nigeria, who lost to Benin in the World Cup qualifiers, but handed them a fourth straight win in AFCON qualification.
Even as they negotiate their way through the volatile coaching situation, Nigeria will still be favorites here. They’ll be targeting a 10th game undefeated away from home in AFCON qualifying matches.
This international week should offer some comfort for Nigeria, who haven't had the best of runs. The win against Benin was their first in four matches. The Super Eagles will bank on not only their superior group of players but also a good head-to-head record against Amavubi.
In the five meetings between the two nations, Nigeria are unbeaten, with two wins.

Rwanda & Nigeria Squad Analysis
After his goal in the Libya game, Innocent Nshutiyamagara should keep his starting berth for this game. Jojea Kwizera might be a doubt for the game after his first half withdrawal in Tripoli.
This could force Torsten Spittler to a formation change though that may only affect the defence. Christian Imanishimwe is likely to be drafted in to provide cover in response to the kind of attack Rwanda will be facing.
There's a coaching uncertainty at Nigeria but that shouldn't affect thye fielding.
Nigeria will most likely have one key change for this game. Victor Osimhen’s first match this season came with a goal after rising from the bench. He may have done enough to warrant a starting place in this match.
His inclusion will mean Victor Boniface drops out. Ademola Lookman, the only African player among the Ballon d’Or nominees, will team with Osimhen in attack.
Augustine Eguavoen will continue in the manager’s position after the Nigerian federation withdrew the announcement of Bruno Labbadia.

Our Rwanda vs Nigeria Prediction
Nigeria have dominated their previous matches against Rwanda, or at least avoided defeat. There are all the signs this game will also follow that script after their impressive showing against Benin.
The Super Eagles have posted straight wins in their last four AFCON qualification matches, and it is even better for them away from home. With a squad made up of more established players, the visitors will definitely have odds stacked in their favor.
With one win in their last 21 AFCON qualifying matches, Rwanda’s chances here are really slim. Our prediction for Rwanda v Nigeria is for Nigeria to win.
Rwanda vs Nigeria - Other Interesting Predictions
Both teams to score - No
In their last three home matches in AFCON qualification, Rwanda failed to score. It has also been a trend in their recent home matches and we can predict the same here. This has been seen in nine of their last 14 matches in this competition.
Meanwhile, in Nigeria’s last 10 matches in the qualifiers, they kept seven clean sheets. Our second prediction for this game is for at least one side to fail to score.
