Russia begin their League B Nations League campaign with a home game against Serbia. Also in this group are Hungary and Turkey, with the winners being promoted to the top League A for the next tournament. The Russians were nearly promoted in the 2018/19 Nations League finishing level on points with Sweden but losing out on head-to-head results. Serbia won their group in League C to be promoted. Since that Nations League, Russia have qualified for the European Championships that were due to take place this summer but will now happen next year (fingers crossed). Russia came second behind Belgium, winning all their matches against Scotland, Khazakhstan, San Marino and Cyprus and only being beaten in their two games against the group winners. They conceded seven goals in those two losses to Belgium but only one in the other eight group games with four clean sheets at home. Over 90 minutes, that loss to Belgium is their only defeat on home soil.

Serbia didn't make it to the finals of the European Championships, finishing third behind Ukraine and Portugal. They only earned one point from their two away games against the top teams in the group. Their last two away games against Luxembourg and Lithuania have both been won, but they had gone five matches on the road without a win before those victories. They are yet to win an international match against Russia. Four previous meetings (the last being in 2016) have seen Russia win twice and draw twice. Russia are a tough team to beat on home soil and they can be backed to get a win here.
