With only two points separating Roma and Napoli, the race to top-five in Serie A is heating up. These two sides will meet on matchday 17 in the league which will be played at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday. The hosts are 8th in the standings with 25 points while the visitors are 5th with 27 points. Interestingly, teams from 4th to 8th have only three points between them which adds more context to this game. To their credit, Roma have enjoyed a bit of upturn in form although they remain as inconsistent as ever. The ill-affects of starting the season with a draw and two defeats is still rankling them as they look to recapture some of the form that landed six wins out of eight league games between the start of October and the start of December.

Napoli are far from defending their Scudetto as they start this round a whopping 14 points behind leaders Inter Milan. The realistic target is to finish in the Champions League qualification spots, which currently is one point away from Napoli. That said, the visitors aren’t covering themselves in glory with a form that’s been swinging to both extremely alarmingly consistently.
