Roma vs Bayer Leverkusen Prediction & Betting Tips - Europa League
by Joseph King | in Europa League Predictions
AS Roma and Bayer Leverkusen meet in the Eternal City to dispute the first leg of the Europa League semi-final. Jose Mourinho will be seeking an incredible sixth trophy in a UEFA competition following his Roma sides Europa Conference League triumph last season. Roma got past Feyenoord in the previous round to advance to the semi-final of this competition for the second time in the past three seasons. Leverkusen, meanwhile, have already achieved their best ever finish in the current iteration of the Europa League after besting Union Saint-Gilloise in the quarter-final. They'll be gunning for their first UEFA final since the 2001/02 Champions League campaign where they finished as runners-up to Real Madrid.

Roma - Bayer Leverkusen: Form Analysis
It's been a tough two weeks for Roma who may well have dropped out of the running for a top four spot in a competitive Serie A. Failure to win in their last four consecutive matches has left Roma five points off the top four with only a few matches remaining. The Italians did brilliantly to overcome Dutch side Feyenoord 4-2 in the previous round thanks to a dominating 4-1 home victory. They'll have to rediscover their winning form however after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Inter on this ground in their last outing. Roma have lost two of their last four matches, conceding seven goals while scoring only three during that stretch.
Bayer Leverkusen enter this semi-final duel in a strong vein of overall form. They have only lost once in their last 15 outings across all competitions, a run which includes 10 victories and four draws. They have really turned things around under the guidance of first-year manager Xabi Alonso after a disastrous start to the year. Leverkusen prevailed 5-2 on aggregate over Union St-Gilloise in the quarter-final thanks to a brilliant 4-1 away victory in the second leg. They are currently on a two match winless run after a 2-1 defeat to Koln on the weekend.Limited Offer. Currently at DraftKings

Roma & Bayer Leverkusen Squad Analysis
Roma boss Jose Mourinho will be without two players for the welcome of Leverkusen to the Italian capital. Defender Marash Kumbulla went down at the end of April with a cruciate ligament injury and will miss the rest of the season. They're also without wingback Rick Karsdorp after the Dutchman underwent knee surgery at the end of March. Mourinho could get a massive boost here with the return of key offensive lead Paulo Dybala, who came on as a substitute against Inter Milan on the weekend after missing the previous two matches. Stephan El Shaarawy will also be pushing for a start here after scoring last week against Monza but missing out against Inter.
Leverkusen only have two injuries to worry about as well, with Czech striker Patrick Schick out with a groin injury and backup goalkeeper Andrei Lunev missing with a back injury. The key players for Leverkusen ahead of this fixture are Moussa Diaby, who has nine goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga season, and wonderkid Florian Wirtz. Each will be expected to shoulder a large portion of the attacking load. Alonso may opt to bring striker Adam Hlozek back into the starting lineup after opting to start with French attacking midfielder Amine Adli in the loss to Koln.

Our Roma vs Bayer Leverkusen Prediction
We give Leverkusen the edge over Roma as we have them as the more talented side overall. The bookmakers agree, making the Germans as the second favorites behind Juventus to win the Europa League while Roma come in at third. Leverkusen suffered defeat in their last outing but their form in 2023 is undeniable. They've had no problems winning away matches during this time and we believe they can do enough to avoid defeat here. Our AS Roma vs Bayer Leverkusen prediction: Leverkusen draw double chance
