Roma vs Ajax Prediction & Betting Tips - Europa League
by Nella Wagah | in Europa League Predictions
A big battle is expected at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, when Roma plays host to Dutch side Ajax in the return leg of their Europa League quarter final, on Thursday. Roma go to the clash leading the tie 2-1 from the first leg in Amsterdam. They staged a fine comeback away from home, helped on by a missed penalty from Dusan Tadic and followed on it with a 1-0 win over Bologna in Serie A. Roma have scored two or more in three of their last five matches and with three wins in their last five matches they can smell a semi final place in this competition. Their home form should give them the hope they need going to this game, having three clean sheets and three wins in the last four matches at Olympic Stadium. Further, the win away to Ajax was their fifth straight in the Europa League and they’ve scored two or more in each. They’ve lost twice in the 11 Europa League matches this season. Roma have just two clean sheets in seven Europa League matches ahead of this, but will be glad at their home form in the competition, having won each of the last four.
Ajax joined in at the knockout stage and won their four straight Europa League matches before meeting Roma. They have a big task in Rome but prepared for that with a slim win over Waalwijk in the Dutch Eredivisie over the weekend. The loss to Roma is the Dutch side’s only defeat in the last 26 matches so they’ll be looking to bounce back, and a run of five straight wins will give them the belief they need at this stage. Ajax’s two top keepers Maarten Stekelenburg and Andre Onana are out with injury and suspension respectively and the goalkeeping duties have been passed on to the inexperienced Kjell Scherpen. The young keeper was responsible for Roma’s first goal in the first leg and this will remain an area of concern for the visitors. Ajax have managed two clean sheets in the five Europa League matches this season. They’ve won both their away matches in the competition and hope to extend the same here.

Our Roma vs Ajax Prediction
Roma have the advantage here and carry a good run at home but the threat posed by this Ajax team can never be overlooked. Ajax have won their last two away matches in this competition but they haven’t been forced to overturn a first leg loss. There will be a different kind of pressure here and with an inexperienced keeper, it won’t be easy. Roma will be favorites for a win here but both sides scoring is a possibility, going by their recent returns in attack. Go for a Roma win.
