Paulo Diaz’s goal four minutes from time handed River Plate a crucial away win in the first leg. It was a befitting reward to a dominant but frustrating outing in Cordoba. They couldn’t back it up with a win as in their most recent game, River drew 1-1 with Gimnasia La Plata.

The hosts, however, took their run to five matches without defeat but three of them were draws. River Plate aren’t in their best attacking shape ahead of this match, having failed to score more than a goal in the last six matches. It hasn’t been the case in Libertadores though – they scored twice in six of seven.

Talleres have a tall order in this tie but will be proud of their first leg performance, frustrating River Plate for long periods. They even had to play the final 30 minutes with 10 men but still held their own.

Now they’ll have to change strategy and go for a win, as that’s the only way they will progress. The visitors are winless in the last three matches against River Plate and will need their best in this away game.

Talleres will hope to build on their 2-1 win over Independiente Rivadavia, their first win in the last seven outings. In their last 11 competitive matches across all competitions, Talleres managed just one clean sheet.
