Nigeria is the remaining African team at the FIFA U20 World Cup and seeks to progress past Korea Republic in the quarterfinals. Nigeria U20 eliminated hosts Argentina while Korea saw off Ecuador to set up this clash. Quickfire first half goals did the job for Korea as they beat Ecuador 3-2 in the previous round. They however had to withstand late pressure from the South American youngsters for this key win. That was just their second win in the four matches at the competition. They had two straight draws prior to the win, having beaten France U20 in the first game. Perhaps one area Korea will need to put more focus on is defence. They have just one clean sheet in their four matches at this competition. In two of their last three matches here, they have conceded more than a goal. They’ve however scored more than a goal in three, and three of the four have had over 2.5 goals. Headiung to this game, Korea will be disadvantaged by the fact they’ve had a day less of rest.

Nigeria came to this competition off a good run in the Africa U20 Championship. It is not a surprise they’ve come this far. In their group stage games, they posted two wins before losing to Brazil U20. That remains the only time they failed to win at this competition. With three wins in four, they will feel very confident against Korea. The 2-0 loss to Brazil is also the only time they failed to score here. Nigeria have scored two in each of their three wins here and they’ve been at their best in the second half. Of the six goals they’ve scored in this competition, five have been in the second half. Meanwhile, all the three goals they’ve conceded have come in the first half. Against Argentina in the last round, Nigeria proved they can stand up to the best, with a 2-0 win. Goals from Rilwanu Sarki and Ibrahim Muhammad did the job. The fact that they played a day before Korea means Nigeria will be better rested.
