French league champions PSG will travel to Rennes on Match Day 8, hoping to bring their season back to track. PSG arrive for this game placed fifth in the standings, a place ahead of Rennes. The hosts have 11 points from their opening seven games, one behind PSG. They will be hoping to leap above the champions. Their recent run against PSG would give them the confidence that they can do this. Rennes have won their last two matches against PSG. In their last meeting they beat PSG 2-0 with goals from Arnaud Kalimuendo and Karl Toko Ekambi. Coming into this game though, they will seek to rise from their 1-0 defeat to Villarreal in the Europa League. That was their first defeat of the season though they have just three wins in nine matches so far. Rennes’ loss to Villarreal marks the third time this season that they failed to score. They’ve been on a good scoring run lately, netting two or more goals three times in the last five games.

PSG are having a shaky season so far and just like Rennes, are coming from defeat in Europe. It won't help that PSG will have Achraf hakimi, Randal Kolo Muani, Ousmane Dembele and Layvin Kurzawa suspended for this game. The French giants fell 4-1 away to Newcastle United in the Champions League. That was their second defeat in five matches, and they’ve failed to win in two straight games. Their run of three straight clean sheets ended in that Newcastle United defeat. PSG have however failed to score in just two of their nine matches this season. In five of the nine matches, they scored two or more goals. As they go into this game, PSG will only be seeking a second win in six matches against Rennes. The champions will hope their star player Kylian Mbappe regains his scoring form. The Frenchman hasn’t scored in the last three matches. His last goal, on 19th October, was from the penalty spot. In the four away matches they’ve had this season, PSG have managed just a win. Two of their four away matches ended in draws.
