Real Sociedad host Valencia in La Liga on Thursday night. The home side sit in seventh in the La Liga table, one place outside of the European qualification spots. However, they are just a point behind Betis in sixth and with three games to go, they are still in with a chance of finishing sixth. However, Sociedad’s recent form isn’t particularly good with just one win in their last five games and last time out they were beaten 2-0 by Barcelona. They did win their last home game against Las Palmas (2-0), but prior to that had lost to Real Madrid and also drawn with bottom club Almeria, both at the Reale Arena. Imanol Alguacil has plenty to work on for this remaining trio of fixtures, starting with this home game against a team just a place below them in the table.

Valencia are six points adrift of Real Sociedad, so this is a must-win game for them if they are to have any chance of jumping above their hosts in the La Liga table. Goal scoring has been a huge problem for Valencia. No side in the top ten has scored fewer than Valencia’s 37 goals this season. Furthermore, they have also hit a rocky patch of form, as they have lost three of their last four games and last time out could only draw 0-0 with lowly Rayo Vallecano. It is because of this poor run of form for both teams, that Real Betis have jumped above the two into sixth place in La Liga. Two solid defences in this game suggest we could be in for another tight encounter, just as the game was when the two met earlier this season, when Sociedad were 1-0 winners in Valencia.
