Fourth-placed Real Sociedad will look to improve their top-four qualification chances as they play second-placed Real Madrid in La Liga on Tuesday. Sociedad are five points ahead of the fifth-placed Villarreal while Madrid are 11 points behind leaders Barcelona. A 2-0 win over Osasuna last matchday meant Sociedad have picked up seven points from their last three league matches. This run has kept them in the run to finish in the Champions League qualification spots, as the likes of Villarreal and Real Betis keep the pressure. It has been their strong defensive record that has held the rope for Sociedad this season. Sociedad’s tally of 29 goals conceded is the third-best in the league which has kept them in the running for a top-four finish.

Madrid won 4-2 against Almeria but with Barcelona also winning their match over the weekend, the gap at the top remains 11 points. With six rounds left, that lead looks too steep to cover for the visitors. To go with that, Madrid also have important clashes on the horizon to look forward to. The Copa del Rey final over the next weekend against Osasuna followed by the first leg of Champions League semis against Manchester City look like more important matches for their season at the moment. Madrid can’t be blamed for doing just that, as their away form is a bit dicey at the moment. They have failed to win six of their last ten away league matches, drawing one and losing five. It is their defensive record that could once again stifle goals in this match as Madrid have conceded only 30 goals so far in the league.
