Real Sociedad’s return to the UEFA Champions League after a decade will see them start against last season runners-up Inter Milan. This Group D match will be played at the Anoeta Stadium in San Sebastian on Wednesday. The other two teams in the group are Benfica and RB Salzburg making this an interesting battle for promotion. Sociedad are in the Champions League group stages for the third time, and the first since 2013/14. As they look to start their group engagements positively, they will have to overcome what has been an indifferent start. Sociedad have drawn three and won one of their five matches in the Spanish La Liga season, while losing one. That defeat came over the weekend when they were defeated by Real Madrid 2-1, in a match where Sociedad scored first. At least on that front, home form is slightly better, with the hosts drawing two and winning one match this season.

Inter lost in the finals last season to Manchester City and were one of the surprise packages. This is their sixth successive Champions League group appearance and couldn’t have come in better form. The Nerazzurri have won all four league matches this season. While the first two wins have come by a 2-0 scoreline, the last two saw them win 4-0 and 5-1 against Fiorentina and AC Milan. Those two victories should give them confidence of continuing their impressive recent run. Inter have won five of their last nine away Champions League matches and should fancy starting on a high.
