Real Madrid vs Leipzig Prediction & Betting Tips - Champions League
by Ian John | in Champions League Predictions
Real Madrid lead Red Bull Leipzig 1-0 from the first leg of this Round of 16 Champions League tie in Germany. It took a special goal from Brahim Diaz to break the deadlock in what was an even contest. Real come into this game having endured just one defeat all season long in the league and Champions League and they are now 7 points clear at the top of the table in La Liga, despite Sunday's 2-2 draw with Valencia, which saw England international Jude Bellingham sent off in added time. The 14-time winners of the Champions League will now be fully focused on finishing the job off on Wednesday night against a Leipzig team that didn't find the net on their only previous trip to the Bernabeu back in 2022, which ended in a 2-0 defeat to the Spaniards.
Leipzig warmed up for this onerous task against Madrid with a very solid 4-1 win away to Vfl Bochum on Saturday. Three second half goals in the space of four minutes blitzed the home side and saw Leipzig earn a good victory, especially after they went a goal down after just 7 minutes. That was Leipzig's first win on the road in the Bundesliga since December 9th, when they defeated Dortmund 3-2. They have won two of their three away games in the Champions League so far, and they put up a brave show against Man City in the game they lost, going 2-0 up before City struck back to score 3 times in the second half. Usually, Red Bull Leipzig are good for a few goals in games, but they were blunted by Real Madrid's defence in the first leg and this away leg looks like being even tougher.

Real Madrid - Leipzig: Form Analysis
Real Madrid's form this season at home has been outstanding. They have won all their Champions League games at the Bernabeu and are unbeaten in La Liga. However, they have struggled for goals a little of late, scoring just 5 in their last four games, two of which they have drawn, away to Rayo Vallecano (1-1) and Valencia (2-2). Their only dropped points at home this season in La Liga have come in draws with Rayo Vallecano (0-0) and Atletico Madrid (1-1) and they've won all other home games including a 4-0 win over Girona, a 5-1 victory over Valencia and a 4-1 victory over Villarreal. They are top of La Liga and seem set to land yet another title to their growing trophy cabinet.
Red Bull Leipzig come into this game in somewhat mixed form, as well as being a goal down from the first leg. In their last seven games, they have been beaten 5-2 by VfB Stuttgart, 1-0 by Real Madrid and 2-1 by Bayern Munich. They drew 2-2 at Augsburg but won the other three games, 2-0 v Union Berlin, and the same score against Borussia Monchengladbach, followed by last weekend's 4-1 win over Vfl Bochum. They also don't have the worst record against Spanish teams, winning three, drawing one and losing two of their six games against Spanish opponents. The problem for them is that the two defeats have both come against their opposition today.

Real Madrid & Leipzig Squad Analysis
Real Madrid will be without a number of players for the second leg of their tie with Leipzig. Long-term absentees goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and central defender Eder Militao are still well over a month away from a projected return to action, while Austrian defender David Alaba will be out until next season at least due to his cruciate ligament injury. Real fans can rest easy however as despite being sent off late on against Valencia, Jude Bellingham will be eligible to play in the second leg, but will miss action in La Liga as a result. The Englishman has been Real's standout player this season, scoring 15 goals from midfield in La Liga and 4 goals and 3 assists in 5 Champions League games this season too.
Leipzig will be missing two defenders themselves for the second leg. Lukas Klostermann has a hip injury which will keep the German centre back out of this game and he will be joined on the sidelines by Frenchman Mohamed Simakan, who picked up his third booking in the Champions League in the first leg and so is suspended for the game at the Bernabeu this week. One positive is the return of Xaver Schlager, who was suspended from the weekend win over Vfl Bochum and he should come back into the team, likely ahead of compatriot Nicolas Seiweld. Leipzig's main hopes may rest with Belgian striker Lois Openda, who has netted 17 Bundesliga goals this season as well as four more in the Champions League.
