Real Madrid - Chelsea: Form Analysis
Madrid have hit something of a speed bump in recent weeks. They’ve now lost two of their last four games and are coming off a wild 3-2 home loss to Villarreal on the weekend. Madrid twice conceded the lead against Villarreal and ultimately gave up the winner in the final 10 minutes. However, while the La Liga title is almost certainly out of reach, the Real Madrid faithful will feel they have an excellent chance at taking down a cup double after Los Blancos advanced to the final of the Copa del Rey thanks to a fantastic 4-0 away win over Barcelona just one week ago. The three goals conceded to Villarreal will be disappointing but the Madrid attack has been firing all on cylinders. The hosts have now scored 12 goals in the last three matches for an average of four goals scored per game.
Chelsea are coming off yet another disappointing result after a 1-0 away defeat to Wolves on the weekend as the club appears to have entered into a complete tailspin. Former player and manager Frank Lampard has been brought in for the short-term following the sacking of Graham Potter as Chelsea search for the next long-term manager of the club. The Blues are now four matches without a win and their attacking threat has come to a complete stop, failing to find the net in any of the previous three outings. Despite being a disaster in the league this season, Chelsea have performed quite well in the Champions League. They topped their group and were able to get past a tricky Dortmund side in the first round. However, they enter this matchup at the worst possible time with the club in turmoil and coming up against one of Europe’s elite.

Real Madrid & Chelsea Squad Analysis
Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti opted to rest a number of his first choice players in preparation for this matchup. The preferred midfield trio of Luka Modric, Eduardo Camavinga and Toni Kroos were all left out of the starting 11 for the match against Villarreal and are expected to be recalled here. They also opted to start with Militao and Fede Valverde on the bench in the previous match. Expect Vinicius Jr and one of either Valverde or Rodrygo to flank the ageless Karim Benzema in the attacking three.
For Chelsea, manager Frank Lampard has a number of absences to deal with. Mason Mount will not be fit for the trip to the Spanish capital while Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta also miss out. Solid defensive option Benoit Badiashile and recent signing Noni Madueke are unavailable as they are not registered as part of Chelsea’s Champions League squad. Expect a return to the fold for Ben Chilwell and N'golo Kante, who both missed out on a start against Wolves, although Chilwell came off the bench in that match.

Our Real Madrid vs Chelsea Prediction
Given the form and the state of both clubs coming into this fixture, it’s difficult to see beyond anything other than a home victory. The loss at the weekend against Villarreal may be alarming but there were a number of first-choice regulars missing from the action in that one. With the players returning, Los Blancos should come into this match confident of getting the win against a vulnerable Chelsea side to take back to London for the return leg.
