Real Madrid can go back to the top of La Liga if winning this match. They begin the weekend in second place and host Real Betis who are fifth in the table. Real beat Cadiz 3-0 away on Wednesday to go top of the table. Atletico Madrid returned to the top with a home win over Huesca the following day. The 3-0 win ended a run of two games without scoring, with Benzema scoring twice for them. The win extended their unbeaten run to 16 league and cup games, since a loss to Levante at the end of January. They are chasing a fourth successive home league win and in all but two of their last 11 home league fixtures have scored at least twice. 

Real Betis have won two of their last three league visits to Real Madrid. The home side are in top form this time around, so another win is going to be difficult for them. Betis are fifth and that's as high as they are going to get. They are 16 points behind Barcelona in fourth at the time of writing this preview. Fifth will take Betis into the Europa League next season but are only ahead of sixth placed Villarreal on head-to-head results, with Real Sociedad two points behind. Betis would be in a stronger position but for drawing their last four league games. The last three of those draws have all been at home, so lots of points wasted. That was particularly the case at home to Valencia where they led 1-0 and 2-1 but drew 2-2. Their last two away league games have produced just a point. They lost at Sevilla and then gave away a lead to draw at Elche who are in the relegation zone. Real Madrid can cause them plenty of problems and get a vital home win here.
