Real Madrid can't afford to lose this home La Liga derby against Atletico Madrid. They start the weekend in fourth place, six points behind leaders Atletico and having a game played more. Going nine behind from one extra game is a stituation they definitely want to avoid. Real have made an inconsistent start to their league season with six wins but also two draws and three defeats. Home form is a worry for them with two of their last three league games being lost. Not against the giants of Spanish football either, those defeats were inflicted by Cadiz and Alaves. Inbetween those two defeats, they beat bottom-of-the-table Huesca 4-1. In all competitions they have lost three of the last six played on home soil. Wednesday was a good night for them though with a 2-0 home win over Borussia Monchengladbach seeing them qualify for the last sixteen of the Champions League and as group winners.

It was a good evening on Wednesday too for Atletico Madrid. They also made it into the Champions League knock-out stage, winning 2-0 away at Salzburg.  Atletico Madrid top the table by a point from Real Sociedad but have two games in hand on them. They have made a strorming start to the new La Liga season with eight wins and two draws from their opening ten fixtures. Five out of six have been won at home but they are strong on their travels too. Atletico have only played four games but three have been won and only one goal has been conceded. It's been a kind fixure list though with three of their away games being against sides currently in the bottom five.  Atletico could only draw at Huesca (who have drawn eight league games this season) but have won the next three. The highest placed opponents they have faced on their travels are Valencia who are currently 13th. They are unbeaten in their last 12 away games in La Liga with half of them drawn. A bet on under 2.5 goals is the tip for this game.
