Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Prediction & Betting Tips - LaLiga
by Daniel Ngulu | in LaLiga Predictions
The 238th Madrid derby is here! Real Madrid will be welcoming their crosstown rivals Atletico Madrid to the Santiago Bernabeu this Saturday for a matchday 23 La Liga game. Predictions point towards a match laden with goals. As always, these two sides have a lot to play for.
This time, they are separated by a point in the title chase, with Real Madrid holding the advantage. Los Blancos are the dominant side in this derby with 116 wins over their rivals and they will be looking to add to it.
Atletico Madrid are, however, not known for making things easy for their biggest rivals. They have claimed 59 wins themselves, with 62 of their previous meetings ending in draws. Atletico have actually come out unscathed in the last three matches against Real Madrid and will seek to keep that run going. This match rarely goes in favor of the away team and this is the run Atletico are looking to break.

Real Madrid - Atletico Madrid: Form Analysis
Real Madrid stumbled in their last La Liga game and failed to open a four-point gap in the shock 1-0 loss to Espanyol. Real felt the man who scored the lone goal, Carlos Romero should have been sent off for a foul on Kylian Mbappe.
The fact that he would score late added salt to their injuries.
However, Real Madrid rose from the loss with a shaky 3-2 win over Leganes in the Copa del Rey. As they turn their guns towards Atletico, Real will be going for a fifth straight La Liga home win.
For the third time in four home league matches, they scored four goals in their 4-1 win over Las Palmas.
Real Madrid’ last home La Liga loss to Atletico Madrid was in 2016.
Atletico Madrid have shown the truest of their intentions in going for the league title. A win here will not only send them top of the standings but will be a major mental boost.
With Barcelona waiting in the wings, the La Liga title race is just about to get exciting. Diego Simeone’s side is unbeaten in the last five matches, winning four.
The most recent of them was a comfortable 5-0 beating of Getafe in the Copa Del Rey. That also signaled their second straight clean sheet. Atletico Madrid pride in being the best defensive side so far in the league but that will get a stern test at the Bernabeu, a venue they rarely win at.

Real Madrid & Atletico Madrid Squad Analysis
Real Madrid have been grappling with injuries to key players. Kylian Mbappe took a heavy hit in the loss to Espanyol and was left out of the Leganes game altogether. He wasn’t the only one overlooked for the game, as Jude Bellingham, Lucas Vazquez and Eduardo Camavinga also didn’t feature.
However, all these are set to be unleashed on Atletico after getting some rest. Carlo Ancelotti is not so lucky in defence though, as a number of his key men are set to miss. Antonio Rudiger is reported to have a thigh issue and will sit this out.
The German’s absence worsens the dire defensive situation as Real are also missing Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal.
With injuries piling up, Aurelien Tchouameni will be deployed in Real’s defence.
While Real Madrid are dealing with a myriad of injury cases, Atletico are largely fit and good to go. Pablo Barrios is back in training but this match might come too soon for him.
The only other absentee in this fixture will be defender Robin Le Normand, who is suspended.
Antoine Griezmann, Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth, the Atletico forwards will be happy at Real Madrid’s defensive woes. The trio has scored eight, six and eight league goals respectively.
