Reading vs Burnley Prediction & Betting Tips - Championship
by Devesh Jaganath | in Championship Predictions
We’re into the final stretch of the Championship season, and in our featured match of the weekend, we will see the league leaders, Burnley, head to Berkshire to take on Reading in a Saturday afternoon kickoff. Having already secured promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, Vincent Kompany’s Burnley will now set their sights on seeing out their final six matches to cap off an excellent season in top spot. Meanwhile, it’s quite the opposite for Reading, who, after their points deduction earlier this month, are now heavily involved in a fierce relegation battle at the other end of the table and are quickly running out of games to pull themselves clear of the drop.

It comes as no surprise that Burnley are fancied to win this match, but there’s plenty of value to be had, with the visitors returning a very attractive 1.55 on average for the win, with some bookmakers offering as high as a 1.6 return on your wager thanks to enhanced odds options. The draw result is currently showing up at 4.0, while a win for the hosts is priced up at 7.0 or better. Despite their struggles this season, Reading have only failed to score twice at home in their last 10 matches in all competitions, while Burnley’s defense hasn’t been as water-tight on the road as they have been at Turf Moor. This makes the both teams to score option look particularly attractive at 2.1 and definitely worth a punt. Burnley have a better goal difference of 67 over Reading this season and put away five goals in their last two away matches against stronger opponents. If they were to continue in that vein, a win for the visitors and over 2.5 goals could reward its backers handsomely with odds of 2.7 on their wager.

Reading - Burnley: Form Analysis
Burnley earned a decisive 2-0 win in their last match against Sheffield United, which extended their incredible league run to 20 matches without defeat, including 16 wins and 4 draws. With that win, the Clarets opened up a commanding lead of 14 points over Sheffield United and come into this match unbeaten in their last nine matches on the road, seven of which were wins. Reading, on the other hand, lost their last match 2-1 against Preston North End, leaving them third-from-bottom with 41 points in as many matches. The hosts are now one point behind Cardiff, who are the first side above the relegation zone. Over their last six matches, Reading have failed to pick up a single win, drawing three and losing three, while at home, they are winless in their last four matches (D2 L2).

Reading & Burnley Squad Analysis
Reading will be without Paul Ince, after the now ex-manager was dismissed following his remarks after their loss to Preston North End earlier in the week. Ince pointed to the injury crisis at the club as one of the reasons that not even Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp would be able to save Reading this season. The hosts have no fewer than eight first-team players sidelined at the present, including the likes of Sam Hutchinson, Shane Long, Tom McIntyre, and Abdul-Rahman Baba. Tom Ince was hopeful of a comeback this weekend, but reports suggest that he’s still not 100% ready and may make an appearance off the bench at best. Burnley have only one injury to contend with, that of Darko Churlinov, though it doesn’t appear to be too serious, and he is expected to be back in a week or two at most.

Our Reading vs Burnley Prediction
With a six-point deduction, an injury crisis, and the sacking of their manager, it looks like the wheels are starting to fall off for Reading at the worst time possible. Coming up against the best team by a margin this season, it's hard to make much of a case for the hosts. The visitors will be riding a high coming into this match and should secure the three points will little difficulty. Our Reading v Burnley prediction is a win for the visitors.
