One point separates RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich on the Bundesliga table and after a rather fine start to the season the two sides will be putting aside their league ambitions to face off in the German Cup on Wednesday 25 October at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. This will be the third meeting between the two sides and Leipzig will be attempting a first win over the German giants. The first meeting between the two, at this same venue last season, ended in a nine – goal thriller, Bayern winning 5 – 4, before completing a double with a 3 – 0 home win in the Bundesliga. Both teams come from 5 – 0 wins in the first round of the German Cup but for either, this will be a much harder encounter. Hosts Leipzig head to this clash with four straight wins, and a loss in their last five encounters. They have a good record at home, having gone unbeaten in their last six matches. In their last five, they have managed three straight wins and two draws, scoring nine goals and conceding six. They will however be buoyed by a better run in the German Cup, having registered just two losses in their last 29 matches, and 14 straight wins in their away matches in the competition. Of the 29, they have failed to score just twice. Across all competitions, Bayern have lost just two of their last 13 matches.
