A crucial relegation battle is set to take place this weekend in the Championship, with Queens Park Rangers taking on Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon. The hosts are currently the first side below the dotted line, while the visitors are at the bottom of the league standings. QPR head into this weekend’s fixture with 32 points to their name after 33 matches, but with the lower table still being very tightly packed, a win will likely see them exit the relegation zone. That prospect looked highly unlikely at the turn of the year, though, when they failed to win a single match between mid-December and mid-January, losing six and drawing just two in that time. However, since claiming an important three points against fellow strugglers Millwall last month, there has been a notable upturn in their performances. Over their last six matches, The Hoops have lost just once while drawing twice and winning three, including a 1-0 victory over Bristol City last week. At home, the hosts are unbeaten in their last three, which sees them enter this contest as the clear favourites. 

Meanwhile, based on the league table this term, it would be hard to believe that Rotherham finished last season ahead of their opponents in this match. With just 19 points after 33 games, they are already 14 points behind Millwall, who are the first side above the drop and are the out-and-out favourites to be relegated in this campaign. Last week, The Millers suffered their 20th league defeat, losing 4-3 to Ipswich on the road. They have now lost two more games than their tally across the entire of last season. That defeat also marked their fifth in succession and was their tenth game in a row without a victory. To date, Rotherham have only won three matches and drawn ten, one of which came in a 1-1 outcome in the reverse fixture against this opponent. The visitors have not won a single of their 16 away league games this season. However, they are unbeaten against this opponent in their last four encounters (W2 D2 L0).
