The last of the first round of the League Cup fixtures will have QPR host Norwich City on Wednesday. An away match against Bristol City awaits in the next round, for the winner here. A season-opening 4-0 loss to Watford rattled QPR but they recovered in the second beating Cardiff City 2-1. Both those were league matches, and now the attention switches to their first cup game of the season. Coincidentally, this will be their first home match of the season; building on the win over Cardiff will be crucial. There they will head seeking a first clean sheet in four competitive matches. Three of their last five competitive matches have had over 2.5 goals. QPR’s home form wasn’t the best at the close of last season and they can only hope for improved fortunes. In their last 15 competitive home matches, they have one win. Of the 15 home matches, 11 ended in losses.
Norwich City, like QPR have shown some frailties in defence in their opening matches. They started their campaign with a 2-1 win over Hull City. Coming into this game, they drew 4-4 with Southampton. While they scored four times, Norwich will be concerned by conceding four, failing to keep a clean sheet in back-to-back games. They led three times against Southampton but in the end, a stoppage time penalty denied them three points. In their second straight away match, Norwich targets a better showing. Four of their last five competitive matches have had over 2.5 goals. In eight competitive matches, Norwich have managed just one win. They however come here unbeaten in six matches against QPR.
