According to the bookmakers, the host nation goes into this game with the underdogs’ odds of 6.4 while it is not a surprise that Senegal have attracted odds of 1.67 for a win. A draw in this game is offered at odds of 3.9.

Qatar - Senegal: Form Analysis
This game pits two continental champions against on another; Qatar pipped Japan 3-1 in the AFC Asian Cup in 2019 to bag the Asian title while Senegal were winners over Egypt in the post match penalties called after their African Cup of Nations final clash ended 0-0. Qatar’s start to their opening game did not in a lot of sense reflect that of a continental champion. They were slow off the blocks and were beaten to most of the 50-50 tackles. The hosts were saved from early concession by the VAR, ruling Enner Valencia’s goal for a marginal offside while defensively they were generally shaky. Four yellow cards to the Qatar starters suggests how second best they were. Clearly a lack of competitive matches over the last one year has had implications on Qatar. Before facing Ecuador, they had last played a competitive game in June 2021, beating Oman and India. Coming into this tournament, Qatar had gone unbeaten in five matches and in this game they are going to have to start all over again. Senegal on the other hand, as expected, were courageous against the Netherlands but missed Sadio Mane, the Bayern Munich forward currently out with injury. The African champions did well to hold off the Dutch but were poor in the final third and failed to register much in the shape of threats on goal, until late on. Two late errors from goalkeeper Edouard Mendy then undid all their hard work in defence as the Dutch scored twice in the final minutes. Senegal, who have nine wins in their last 15 matches, will hope they can atone for that loss here. They have three wins in their last four competitive matches and have kept four clean sheets in the last six.

Qatar & Senegal Squad Analysis
Senegal need to devise a way to move on without Sadio Mane. The Bayern Munich star was clearly missed in the opening game as Senegal struggled in attack and for the second straight World Cup game, they failed to score. In this game, Senegal may also be without key midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate, who was substituted with injury in their last game to be replaced by Alassane Papa Gueye in the 71st minute. Kouyate’s exit immediately left Senegal shaky, and the Dutch dominated more, leading to their two goals. As Senegal manager Aliou Cisse deals with that, he will be praying for a better showing from his first keeper Edouard Mendy, who had a heavy hand in both Netherlands’ goals. At the same time, Cisse will hope Idrissa Gueye and Nampalys Mendy avoid bookings after getting yellow carded in the first game. As for the Qatar manager Felix Sanchez, he may be forced to shift things a bit; Mohamed Muntari came on late in the opening game and did well enough to push for a starting berth here, while goalkeeper Saad Al Sheeb will have to improve on his shaky start to the Ecuador game where he conceded a penalty, two goals and got booked.

Our Qatar vs Senegal Prediction
Qatar were poor in their opening game and deservedly lost. They struggled to create anything in attack against Ecuador and this will definitely be another tough game for them as they face the African champions. Senegal have played stronger sides in their recent matches, and posted better results compared to Qatar’s. The West Africans will miss their key man Sadio Mane but they should have enough to see off this game. Back Senegal to win here.
