PSV Eindhoven will hope to move closer to winning the Eredivisie title when they host AZ Alkmaar in their next game. At the summit of the league, PSV have 75 points, and a 10-point gap, while AZ are fourth, four points below the Champions League spot. PSV responded well to their first league loss of the season, beating Excelsior 2-0 away from home in the last game. Johan Bakayoko’s second goal in as many matches sealed it after Mauro Junior’s opening goal. They will want to carry this form in their first home game after two straight away matches. Two losses in the last four matches represent PSV’s toughest run this season. Their 2-0 loss to Dortmund in the Champions League was only the third time this season that they failed to score. They’ve actually scored in all of their league matches this season. PSV will remember that AZ was the last team to beat them at home in the league – that was well over a year back, in November 2022. They’ve since gone unbeaten at home in 23 league matches, drawing just three.

AZ have lost their last two meetings with PSV since their famous win at the Philips Stadion. They will want to stop that run here, while at the same time strengthening their Champions League hopes. Things haven't gone in their favor in a number of recent games though. AZ come into this game fresh from a 5-0 thrashing by Heracles in their last game. It was a ruthless ending to their three-game winning streak and a reminder of their shaky away run. A second straight away game against a title chaser wouldn’t be the dream match for AZ. They have three wins only in their last 14 away matches in all competitions. AZ have managed just two clean sheets in their last 11 away league matches. That run will not inspire much confidence ahead of a game against a team that scored in each league game this season.
