PSG vs Rennes Prediction & Betting Tips - Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain aim to bounce back from European disappointment with a home fixture against Rennes in Ligue 1 on Saturday. The reigning French champions are top of the table after nine games having won their previous seven matches. They face a Rennes side not too far behind them in the league. Third in the table, three points behind PSG, Rennes appear to be on their way down the table. They have only picked up one victory from their last six matches in all competitions. Rennes coach Julien Stéphan will be happy that said victory was their last league outing, a 2-1 win over Brest. Former goalkeeper Edouard Mendy starred in a comfortable Chelsea win over Rennes in the Champions League in midweek. The aforementioned disappointment that PSG suffered was also related to the bitter taste of UCL defeat, last season's finalists going down 2-1 at RB Leipzig. That was PSG's third defeat in their last four European outings, though it should be noted that the first of those was against Bayern in last season's final. PSG boss Thomas Tuchel will be feeling the pressure as his side face an almost unthinkable exit from the Champions League at the first hurdle. While league success is part of the brief, PSG could win Ligue 1 on autopilot. Winning the Champions League is always the primary objective.

Although PSG are expected to collect their title at the same time every year, like a parent picking up their child after school, slip-ups do occur from time to time. They suffered back-to-back defeats at the start of the campaign and have lost two of their last three encounters with Rennes. PSG have beaten Rennes on their last two home clashes but lost the 2018 edition. However, this loss occurred in May, long after PSG had wrapped up the title. We don't see their European problems affecting their league form. They have scored at least four goals in six of their last eight home matches in Ligue 1. Back PSG with a minus-one handicap.
