Portugal vs Spain Prediction & Betting Tips - International Friendlies
by Steve Ashfield | in Football Predictions
These top European teams face off in an international friendly as a warm-up for the Nations League. Both Portugal and Spain top their groups in that competition, so this could well be a rehearsal for the finals that take place next year. Portugal are the current Nations League holders, as well as European champions. They top their 2020/21 group with two wins so far over Croatia and Sweden and next travel to France and host Sweden. Cristiano Ronaldo scored both goals in the 2-0 away win at Sweden, but the big question is whether he will play in this match. Dare Portugal risk him when they have a vital game against France on October 11? They may well leave him out but Portugal have plenty of other impressive players in their side, including Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva, as well as Felix and Jota. That's why their form is so impressive with only an away loss in Ukraine in 18 games since losing in the 2018 World Cup. Home form has seen them unbeaten since a friendly loss to the Netherlands two years ago. Their last five home games have been won with 17 goals scored.
Spain top their Nations League group but with four points from two games. They needed a 96th minute equalizer to get a point at Germany but then beat Ukraine 4-0 at home with two goals coming from Ramos. This is a warm-up for a home game against Switzerland and a trip to the Ukraine. They are now unbeaten in 13 games since a 2018 loss to Croatia in the first Nations League. Nine of their last ten away internationals have seen both teams score. There is likely to be a bit of experimentation in this match, so going for both to get on the scoresheet looks a bet that can be a winning one.
