Portugal need to make their home form count as they aim to overcome a one-goal deficit from the first leg against Denmark in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals. This second-leg match at Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon on Sunday comes with our prediction of both teams scoring goals. The winner of this tie moves into the semi-finals to face the winner of the Italy vs Germany quarter-final.
Portugal are the inaugural edition champions of this tournament but have not managed to go past the group stage in the last two editions. They have an impressive home record, which should give them confidence in overturning the deficit, as their last three matches at home saw them score nine goals.
Denmark produced the first win for boss Brian Riemer, who now has one draw, one defeat, and one loss from his three matches in charge. This is their first chance at moving into the last four of this competition, and the first-leg advantage gives them hope. The Danes still have to overcome their poor away record in recent trips, but can they do it? Read further for our predictions.

Portugal - Denmark: Form Analysis
Portugal’s 1-0 loss away at Denmark in the first leg extended their indifferent recent form. That result made it two draws and a defeat from their last four matches, with only a 5-1 win over Poland last November being the exception.
That win has come at home, and Portugal will be high in spirits as they have won all three home matches in this Nations League campaign. Going further back in this competition, they have nine wins from their last 11 home matches in the Nations League.
Portugal won three matches against Denmark before the first-leg defeat.
That said, those matches were played between 2012 and 2015, so the visiting Danes will hope they can build up on the first leg and progress here. The first leg win was their lone victory in five matches, though, as Denmark drew and lost two matches each.
Going back to the start of the campaign, Denmark did manage consecutive wins, but their form has been up and down since then. The challenge is to find ways to improve their away form, as the Danes haven’t won any of their last four Nations League trips, although consecutive draws suggest they can’t be ruled out of contention, as another draw is enough to progress to the semis.

Portugal & Denmark Squad Analysis
Portugal don’t have any injury issues and have a fully fit squad to choose from. Manager Roberto Martinez could still ring in some changes to get the win he needs from this second leg.
They are likely to play in the same 4-3-3 formation, although right-back Nelson Semedo could replace Diogo Dalot in the playing XI. The Wolves full-back played 24 minutes in the first leg but could be set for a bigger role here. Diogo Jota could be slotted into the side to shake up things.
Cristiano Ronaldo has four goals in his last three home matches.
Those have come against Poland, Scotland, and Croatia in the Nations League, and all in wins!
Denmark will be without Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Alexander Bah, Kasper Dolberg and Matt O'Riley due to injuries. They could continue their 3-5-2 formation, but with a few changes in personnel.
Skov Olsen could come into the playing XI to replace Jesper Lindstrom, while Rasmus Hojlund could come into the team in place of Mika Biereth after scoring the winning goal in the first leg.
Christian Eriksen is likely to be their orchestrator in the middle of the park, and he’s Denmark’s active player with the most goals (43) and international appearances (140).

Our Portugal vs Denmark Prediction
A 1-0 lead from the first leg gives Denmark a slight edge, but Portugal are still alive in this tie. That deficit can be overcome if the Portuguese find their scoring shoes here. They have scored 2+ goals in five of their last six home matches in the Nations League, so history is on their side. Denmark will look to keep it tight, as a draw is enough to progress. Their defence has remained suspect, but they are likely to find at least a goal. That’s why our Portugal vs Denmark prediction is both teams to score.
Portugal vs Denmark - Other Interesting Predictions
Bruno Fernandes to score anytime
Bruno Fernandes came into the first leg with some superb form behind his back. He had scored six goals in five matches for Manchester United before the first leg in Denmark but failed to add to that tally. Bruno has two goals in this season’s Nations League competition, and both have come in home matches, which raises hopes for the home fans. Back Bruno Fernandes to score a goal anytime.
