Portsmouth vs Arsenal Prediction & Betting Tips - FA Cup
by Daniel Ngulu | in FA Cup Predictions
Arsenal’s defeat at home to Olympiacos left a huge dent in their chances of winning silverware this season and as they travel to League One side Portsmouth for the FA Cup they know they can’t afford to bottle this. Going to the fifth round of the cup, Portsmouth are fifth in League One with 56 points while Arsenal’s struggles in the season see them placed ninth in the Premier League with 37 points. Portsmouth go to this game on the back of a 3-1 win over MK Dons, who had a man sent off before Portsmouth sealed the game with the third goal. They have won three of their last four matches but facing a hurting Arsenal will be a different game altogether. They have scored two or more in three of their last four matches. One of their best highlights this season is a 19-match unbeaten run at home. They have won 16 of the 19 and will be looking to fell one giant here, having already eliminated Championship side, Barnsley. They have four straight wins in the FA Cup and in those, they have scored twice at the least.
On the other hand, Arsenal, reeling from their Europa League elimination, have three wins in their last four matches. Considering the kind of opposition they have faced, a game against Portsmouth should provide an easy win, but Arsenal have been tough to predict this season. They have one loss and six wins in their last 11 matches and have scored an average two goals in their last four matches. Arsenal haven’t lost in 10 straight away matches, but seven of those have been draws. They have two straight away clean sheets and three in 10, while they have nine wins in 11 FA Cup matches. They have lost just once in the last 13 away matches in the FA Cup. It is over a decade since these two sides faced off; Arsenal go to this game on a six-match unbeaten run against Portsmouth. The last time Portsmouth beat Arsenal, was in the 1950s’. Arsenal have since gone unbeaten in their last 18 matches against Portsmouth.

Our Portsmouth vs Arsenal Prediction
Arsenal are coming from a disappointing showing, and home loss to Olympiacos in the Europa League and they know this is their only chance of silverware in the season. They meet a Portsmouth side with a very good home record and they will need to be at their best. Portsmouth have scored two or more in their last four FA Cup matches. While the hosts have good run, Arsenal have made massive gains in the FA Cup as well, and this being the best chance of winning anything this season, Mikel Arteta’s charges will give their all. Considering both sides’ scoring forms, we have reason to believe we will see over 2.5 goals here.
