Fresh from their loss but triumph over Juventus in the Champions League, FC Porto will be at home to take on Pacos de Ferreira in the Primeira Liga as they look to reignite slim title defence hopes. It hasn’t been a good season for Porto on the domestic front and even going to this game, it has been very shaky for the Portuguese champions. Porto have so far garnered 48 points, placing them third in the league standings while Pacos have, 41 points in fifth place. Both sides head to this game having won twice, lost twice and drawn once in the last five matches. Porto are 10 points behind league leaders Sporting and it doesn’t seem like they’ll be able to stage a successful title defence. In their recent matches they’ve underperformed, winning just three of their last 10 matches in all competitions. However, Porto are unbeaten in the last 16 league matches. Their last loss in the league was inflicted by Pacos back in October, the clash ending 3-2. After that loss, Porto have gone on to win 11 of 16 league matches and ahead of this game they’ve scored two or more goals in six of the last 10 league games. In the last eight league matches, Porto have five clean sheets, while they’ve lost once in the last 20 home matches in the league.

Pacos are the lowest scorers among the teams in the top five of the standings, with 30 goals. Here, they’re gunning for a double over Porto but have no clean sheet in their last four matches. Sitting eight points below the Champions League slot, with 12 games to play, should give Pacos some hope of gracing the biggest club competition in Europe. An improvement on their away performances is however needed before they can set high targets. Pacos de Ferreira have two straight away losses, failing to score in both and have no clean sheet in the last three away matches. In 11 away league matches this season, Pacos have managed just four wins. They’ve gained only 15 of a possible 33 points in their away matches this season.
