Benfica will travel to Portimonense in Round 32 of the Portuguese Primeira Liga in search of three crucial points to take them closer to securing this season’s league title. Benfica come to this match top of the standings and with a four-point advantage while Portimonense are 13th and already assured of survival. For the seventh successive season, Portimonense will play in the Primeira Liga despite not winning their last two matches. Paulo Sergio’s men have amassed 34 points and with three matches left to play, cannot be caught by any of the teams in the relegation zone. They will now focus on trying to surpass their best-ever points tally of 39 since returning to the league in the 2017/18 season. Portimonense have won just two of their last 10 matches with six of those games ending in defeat. Having only managed one win against Benfica in the last five meetings, this could be another losing outing for them.

Benfica are on course to winning their first league title in five seasons but still have to stay focused, with FC Porto right behind them. Roger Schmidt’s men are on 80 points, just four above defending champions Porto. After losing two matches back-to-back in April to see their 10-point lead slashed down to four, the Eagles did not panic and have responded by winning three matches on the bounce. They beat third-placed Braga 1-0 to ultimately end Braga’s title aspirations last time out, and with another tough encounter against Sporting Lisbon coming up after this, Benfica cannot afford to not win here. They have won four of the last five matches against Portimonense including successive away matches. Another win here will leave them needing to win only one of their remaining two matches to be assured of being crowned champions.
