Poland - Netherlands: Form Analysis
Group D has rightly been listed as one of the toughest in this competition and Poland aren’t backed among favorites to advance from the pool. However, having made it to their fifth straight European Championship, Poland come with some good experience at this level. It is just about three months ago when Poland secured their slot at Euro 2024 and they come here on an impressive run. They beat Wales on post-match penalties after a 0-0 draw in March to secure their slot. That draw happens to be the only time they failed to win outright in their last five matches. It was also the only time they failed to score in their eight-game unbeaten run. However, they have just three clean sheets in the last 11 matches; both teams scored in six of the 11 matches. Poland will hereby seek to do better than their bottom placed finish at Euro 2020. Ahead of this game, Poland have no win inside 90 minutes in their last five European Championship matches.
The Netherlands will also be looking to do better than their last 16 exit at Euro 2020. They didn’t have a very straightforward qualification run either, only confirming their place in the penultimate round. They’ve however risen past the nervy qualifiers and will be looking to take their place among the European heavyweights. The Dutch will be emboldened by their impressive run against the Poles. In this fixture, the Netherlands last lost in 1979, and coming here they are on a 12-match unbeaten run against Poland. In their five meetings between 2016 and 2022, the Netherlands won four times. In the warmup for this competition, the Dutch registered 4-0 wins against Canada and Iceland. They have six wins in their last seven matches coming here and have scored in each of their last 13 matches. In their last five matches alone, they scored 19 times, and have the attack as their biggest threat heading to Germany.

Poland & Netherlands Squad Analysis
To face a team of the Netherlands’ caliber, Poland need their best players available, especially in defence. However, it will not be the case here as Aston Villa defender Matty Cash is ruled out of the competition due to injury. As if that’s not a blow big enough, Poland are also set to miss their talisman Robert Lewandowski. The silver lining is that Lewandowski’s absence could be only for this game. The Barcelona forward is nursing a thigh injury and might return on Match Day 2.
The Dutch aren’t spared the injury case either. A few days to their opening game of the competition, the Netherlands communicated that Frenkie De Jong would be ruled out of the tournament. Teun Koopmeiners is also set to miss the competition with injury while Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber wasn’t even called up after his late recovery from a knee injury. The Netherlands have however handed out late call ups to Joshua Zirkzee and Ian Maastsen.
