Poland were eliminated in the group stages of the 2018 World Cup but did well to get a 1-1 draw away to Italy in their opening European Nations League game. Now they have a home international friendly against the Republic of Ireland hoping to make it four home games without defeat. It was their home form that saw Poland qualify for the World Cup finals as they won all five of their matches. They will be hoping to replicate that kind of form against Italy and Portugal in the European Nations League but first they have this friendly to win.

Their opponents need to bounce back from a disastrous opening game in UEFA's new competition. They failed to make it through to the World Cup finals losing to Denmark in the play-offs and lost the home leg 5-1. Another heavy defeat followed last week when they went to Wales (where they'd won last year) and lost 4-1. That loss was the fourth in their last five games with the other match being a 2-1 home win over the USA. Their last seven away games have only produced one win and while it might not be such a heavy defeat as in Wales, this looks like another loss for the Irish and a home win for Poland.
