Philadelphia Union will face off with Sporting Kansas City in the first of the quarter final matches at the MLS is Back Tournament. The two sides ground out slim wins in their second round matches, Union beating New England 1-0 and Sporting needing penalties to oust Vancouver Whitecaps after a 0-0 draw. Union finished their group in second place with seven points and are unbeaten so far in the competition. In their last five meetings with Sporting, Union have two wins and each of the five matches has produced under 2.5 goals.

After overcoming Vancouver 3-1 on post-match penalties the challenge gets tougher against one of the sides yet to taste defeat here. After the opening 2-1 loss to Minnesota United, Sporting have improved well and their strength in attack was felt in the five goals scored in the last two group games.
