by Nella Wagah in League One Predictions
Peterborough United and Portsmouth will put their unbeaten runs on the line when they face off in League One this Saturday. Visitors Portsmouth lead the standings while Peterborough come seeking to rise from fourth place. Peterborough have so far bagged 71 points and 14 more points will assure them of a playoff spot. However, Peterborough have not hidden their target to go for automatic promotion and a win here will be key to achieving that. With a game in hand, they will move to within a point of the automatic promotion places if they win here. The hosts have a fine run in their recent matches to match their ambitions. In the last six games, Peterborough have returned with straight wins, five of them in the league. They’ve also improved a lot in attack in recent matches, scoring at least three goals in the last three matches. The Posh are the highest scorers in the league and that will work just well ahead of this game. However, two clean sheets only in their last 11 matches should cause jitters when going to face the league leaders. It should also worry Peterborough that they’ve conceded the most in the top four (45).
Portsmouth came from behind to thump Peterborough 3-1 in the reverse fixture and will hope to complete a double here. That was their first win in three meetings with Peterborough and they’ll have reason to feel as favorites here. Portsmouth are also coming to this game on an unbeaten run, theirs stretching back to 20th January. The 2-1 win over Burton Albion in the last game was their 11th undefeated outing, winning eight in that run. Kusini Yengi was the Pompey hero in that game, scoring the two goals either side of the break. Seeking a second straight win over the league’s best scoring side will call for a lot. Having the league’s best defence however, means Portsmouth are up to the task. Both sides have scored in four of their last six matches though. It hasn’t really been straightforward for Portsmouth when playing away from home. While they are unbeaten in six on the road, they’ve drawn three. Their last four away matches have returned just a win.
