Seventh-place Paraguay play host to a stuttering Brazil in fourth place when the two sides face off for this CONMEBOL 2026 World Cup qualifying fixture. Can the Seleção make it back-to-back wins or will La Albirroja successfully frustrate another of South America’s top sides? Let’s take a look at the match prediction.

Paraguay walked away with a good point after a 0-0 draw away from home against Uruguay on Friday. The result ended a run of three straight defeats for Paraguay, who were dumped out of the Copa America after losing all of their group stage games.

It hasn’t been a great 2024 for Paraguay who have recorded only a single win this year in nine appearances. Still, their record of 1-3-3 in qualifying has them holding onto an intercontinental playoff spot and sitting two points behind Ecuador for automatic qualification.

As for Brazil, they will be hoping a 1-0 win over Ecuador can jump-start what has been a below-par qualifying campaign so far. Dorival Junior’s side heavily underperformed in the Copa America, resulting in only one win in their four matches played and exiting in the quarter-final. 

Brazil’s World Cup qualifying began strongly with seven points from the first three matches before a disastrous three-game losing streak. Friday’s victory saw that streak finally put to an end, bringing the Brazilians to 10 points and eight off rivals Argentina at the top.

Brazil’s attacking woes have been well documented as they have now been held to a single goal or fewer in five of their last six qualifying matches. This was also a problem at the Copa America, where they failed to score twice in their four games.
