Palmeiras’ chase for a third straight Copa Libertadores title hangs in the balance as they prepare to host fellow Brazilians Athletico Paranaense in the return leg of their semi final clash. Athletico Paranaense won the first leg 1-0 and Palmeiras have all to play for as they seek to overturn the deficit. It hasn’t been all smooth for Palmeiras in their recent matches; in all their last four games, they have failed to win – three draws and a loss. They’ve failed to score in one of the last five matches and haven’t scored more than a goal in four of those five games. Both sides have scored in three of Palmeiras’ last four matches. With just one clean sheet in five matches, Palmeiras have work to do in defence. They aren’t as strong as before, and in three of the last five matches, they have conceded first. Palmeiras will still be short in midfield with Danilo and Gustavo Scarpa missing as they serve suspension.

In this competition, they’ve won once in five matches away from home. Athletico Paranaense will miss the services of Hugo Moura, who was sent off with 20 minutes to go in the first leg.
