Real Madrid visit Osasuna in round 22 of the Spanish La Liga on Saturday aiming to not fall further away in the title race. Second placed Madrid have so far managed 48 points, eight points off top spot while Europe chasing Osasuna are ninth with 30 points. Madrid returned from the Club World Cup and found themselves 11 points behind leaders Barcelona. But a 4-0 thumping of Elche in midweek has returned the points deficit back to single digits and they will want to keep it that way as they hope for their eternal rivals to slip up. Carlo Ancelotti’s men have been plagued by a lack of consistency and surprisingly lost 1-0 to Mallorca in their league match before heading for the Club World Cup. Madrid haven’t registered back-to-back wins so far in 2023 in the league and they will want to offset this against an Osasuna team that has also had consistency issues recently.

Osasuna are coming into this round on a run of four matches without a win. This has seen them drop further back from next season’s European qualifying places. However, they still remain in the race as they are just three points from a Conference League spot and four from the Europa League. Jagoba Arrasate’s charges have been impressive in defence but it is in attack where they have struggled. They have scored 19 goals, the same as they have conceded, which is bettered by 14 other teams including some who are fighting relegation. This year in the league, despite suffering just one loss, they have not scored more than one goal in a game and have failed to score three times.
