Orlando Pirates are among the six sides yet to taste defeat in the South African Premier Soccer League and will be hoping to extend that on Match Day 4 as they host SuperSport United. The hosts are placed sixth in the league with five points and SuperSport are fourth, having managed six points. Pirates’ morale will be boosted by a nine-match unbeaten run going to this clash, and having won each of their last three, they will carry the favorites’ feel. They have three straight clean sheets heading to this clash, and with six clean sheets and seven wins in their last nine matches, they will be targeting a leap up in the standings. Scoring has not been a problem at Pirates; they have netted in each of their last nine matches but their win over Bloemfontein Celtic was their first in the PSL this season. That win came sandwiched by back to back wins over Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 Cup and perhaps the biggest improvement Pirates need, is in attack, to score more goals. That may be addressed well in time for this game if the club can secure a work permit for new signing Jean-Marc Makusu, with the Congolese forward joining on loan from AS Vita. Seven of their last 10 league matches at home have produced under 2.5 goals and in the last five league meetings between these two sides, each has won twice.
SuperSport head to this game after a 1-0 loss to Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8 Cup, which was the first time in six matches that they have failed to score and they will be looking to address that in their tour of Johannesburg. They have two wins in their last five matches and have conceded in four of their six matches this season while they haven’t scored more than a goal in their last four matches. SuperSport have lost three straight away league games and have managed to score more than one goal in just four of their last 15 away league games. A total of 12 of SuperSport’s last 15 away league games have produced under 2.5 goals but they have failed to score in only four of the last 15 away matches in the league. It will be tougher for them here as they are set to miss key players in Bradley Grobler, who was released from the South Africa national team with an ankle injury while Clayton Daniels is also out after being involved in a car accident, though he wasn’t hurt.
